The accompanying photograph shows a colony of Polistes dominula, also known as cartoneras wasps because they build their nests, or "nests" with cellulose obtained from tree bark. This cellulose is masticated and molded to provide the consistency of wet paper, and can mold and give the characteristic shape the cells of their nests.
